Dog grooming styles: turn a reference photo into a clear request

Discuss coat suitability, length and daily upkeep before agreeing to a style.

Bring a useful reference

Choose a clear photograph showing the body, face and legs, preferably on a dog with a similar coat. Tell the groomer which parts you like. Point out the length and shape instead of relying only on labels such as puppy cut or teddy bear cut.

Discuss the coat you have today

Ask the groomer to assess the coat before confirming a finish. Its condition and characteristics affect the available options. If the reference is unsuitable, ask the groomer to explain an achievable alternative and show you where its appearance will differ.

Agree the important details

Discuss body length, face shape, ears, feet and tail separately. Ask the groomer how they describe the chosen length and what it will look like on your dog. Confirm any parts that should be left longer or handled differently before the appointment begins.

Match the style to your routine

Ask what brushing and maintenance the chosen finish requires between appointments. Choose a result you can reasonably maintain, and ask which tools the groomer recommends for that coat. Keep a photo of the finished groom and the agreed description for the next visit.
